THE MELTBLOWN : AT THE HEART OF OUR HEALTH PROTECTION

Manufacturing locally is Born To Share partner Klap's commitment.

But to sustainably reinvent the single-use protection industry, Klap wanted to control the entire production chain and produce their own filter media themselves: The Meltblown.

Having invested in a Meltblown manufacturing machine allows Klap to guarantee the customers a secure supply of protective equipment as well as technological mastery of the entire mask manufacturing process.

INDEPENDENCE, PROXIMITY, QUALITY: THE TRIPLE MELTBLOWN EFFECT

The choice of proximity and quality thanks to the short circuit has become obvious to Klap in a responsible and visionary approach.

Projecting and committing is the path taken by giving themselves the means to ensure the independence and stability of their production, the development of their expertise and their contribution to a sustainable and creative industrial sector and to local jobs.

Klap is one of the 10 companies whose project has been selected by the French State as part of the Call for Expression of Interest. This procedure aims to structure a national industrial sector for the manufacture of filtering raw materials used in particular in the manufacture of protective masks.

THE MELTBLOWN: INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Meltblown is a non-woven material made by entangling molten and blown micro-fibres. It is used as the main component of respiratory masks, for its excellent performance in terms of both filtration and breathability.

It is also used as a filtering material for other medical or technical applications: disposable clothing (overblouses, gowns, etc.), sheets and covers, nappies and hygiene protection, insulating or filtering materials for construction and industry, etc.

Between paper and fabric, Meltblown reveals a concentration of qualities: it is light, breathable and, above all, highly filtering. It is an extraordinarily versatile material (polypropylene, polyesters, biosourced materials, etc.) and its ability to be combined with other supports (spunbond, plastic coatings, textile supports, etc.) allows the creation of a technical textile with multiple applications.

THE ROLE OF MELTBLOWN IN SURGICAL MASKS AND FFP2

The qualities of Meltblown naturally make it an essential component of a disposable respirator mask, whether it is a surgical mask or an FFP2 mask.

As you can see, Meltblown has a high filtration capacity. The material is stretched to the maximum during the manufacturing process, until it forms a uniform tangle of very fine filaments 0.1 microns in diameter.

It should be remembered that viruses are transported from one person to another by the emission of droplets (up to 2 metres) and aerosols (up to 4 metres). These droplets and aerosols can be up to 5 microns in diameter. Thanks to Meltblown, a sanitary protection mask filters at least 95% of aerosols of 3 microns in diameter if it is a surgical mask, and at least 94% of aerosols of 0.5 microns for a FFP2 mask.

WHY DO DISPOSABLE MASKS HAVE AN EXPIRY DATE? THE ANSWER AT LAST!

In order to achieve this filtration performance, the Meltblown for respirators undergoes a manufacturing process in which electrostatic charges are added to it in order to retain the particles even better. However, this electrical charge decreases over time, which explains why disposable protective masks have a limited lifespan, even when properly stored in their original packaging.

OTHER QUALITIES OF MELTBLOWN!

Its high resistance due to the manufacturing process of non-woven materials, its breathability since it allows oxygen and CO2 molecules to pass through without difficulty, and finally its lightness: it is 50% less heavy than cotton for the same volume!
